I never thought I would see this day. I’ll respond in detail tomorrow, but Rodrigo Duterte, responsible for the murders of tens of thousands of Filipinos, has been arrested and is on a plane to The Hague.
After writing my Times feature in 2017 about his drug war death squads (“The List”), I seethed in frustration as Duterte served his full six-year term and then left office popular, and with impunity. Now the International Criminal Court has acted. The evidence matters. Here’s a good explainer:
