My wife pointed me to an article in the Atlantic, by Anne Applebaum, on the role of disinformation and lying in authoritarian regimes. She’s focussed on Belarus, to illustrate the way leaders try to suppress dissent and “flood the zone” with propaganda that confuses and buries actual information about politics.
